Summer 2012; I was overworked, out of shape, and over all just not happy. I decided to take immediate action to improve my life and chose to return to one of my passions, martial arts. As they say back home in Queens New York, go hard or go home (or in this case stay home). So I decided to do something I have dreamed of all my life, to study Muay Thai Boxing in Thailand. But being that I had MMA experience and I was a Blue belt in Brazilian Jiu-jitsu, I needed a place that could also provide grappling for me as well. I started screening gyms and eventually settled on Tiger Muay Thai and MMA Training Camp, Thailand.
It was perfect for many reasons. It had Yoga, Cross-training BodyFit, Muay Thai, BJJ, Submission Grappling, Wrestling, MMA, the works. It was easy to deal with them. I contacted them via email and they helped me get my visa. I could pay online not only for my training, but my room and food as well. It was all very neat and organized and that sold me (aside from the small fact that they have some of the most experienced trainers in Thailand).
I started the summer at 195 lbs. (88.4K) and managed to lose 10 lbs. (4.5k) before leaving for Thailand in November, mostly from working as a mover in the heat. But I was still out of shape and just felt bloated and slow. The winter was coming and I started to feel the weight coming back.
When I got to Tiger, as soon as I started training Muay Thai, I started to feel myself just melt away. The classes are no joke; 2.5hr sessions every morning and every evening. I got to the advance class where it got even harder. I had the Meal plan they offered as well. Tiger grill’s meals were perfect. Big, healthy, high quality, and damn good (the burger and chicken salads are the best on the island, period). This is what I came here for. I dropped to 170lbs (77k) in 2 months. I got stronger, faster, and just plain better. The experience has been amazing and I have Tiger Muay Thai to thank for it. It is a family here and I have not only achieved my goals of getting back into shape, but have done it while making so many good friends from all over the world. I will definitely be back. Thanks Tiger Muay Thai!
